Area residents and visitors can now access Bell’s third-generation (3G) wireless network, related products and services through unprecedented data download speed of up to 2.4Mbps, the company announced.

With the rapid growth and ease of access to powerful wireless mobile networks, the cottage is now a business-ready location for telecommuting. More and more people are becoming remote workers and are taking business with them to their cottage retreats. With Bell’s EVDO data network, users will be able to work from the comfort of their deck chairs with access to the same technological luxuries and desktop applications found at the office. Users can easily connect to the office or home remotely and download large spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations at speeds comparable to wired high-speed networks. In fact, with EVDO, a one-megabyte file can take just 20 seconds to download, compared to two minutes on traditional networks.

As one example, a real estate agent driving a customer past their “dream house” can instantly access the property’s data via MLS and share it with their client.
